Kefron has been sponsoring the Calcutta run for the past 17 years. The team in Kefron is involved in this event by supplying and packing the bags that all participants receive at the end of the run and by manning the water stations during the race.
The money raised from this event goes to GOAL and the Peter McVerry Trust for the homeless youths on the street of Calcutta and Dublin.
Fr Peter McVerry has been in Kefron to visit us and share with all of us his vision and experience.
Fr Peter McVerry is the founder of the “Peter McVerry Trust”. Fr Peter has been working with Dublin’s young homeless for more than 30 years not only tackling the issue of homelessness but also drug misuse and social disadvantage. This facility has been supported for many years by the Calcutta Run which is one of the main fund raising activities that support the Trust.
These trusts rely on these funds to continue their good work both in Calcutta and in Dublin!

This is a quote from Justin, who’s been working with Caritas College since the very start:
“I enjoy the interaction with the students, I hope that we are making a difference as students consider the next steps in their lives. Many students do not have any experience of a professional working environment and can have some anxiousness about unfamiliar surroundings and interviews. Being able to introduce students to this environment and ease some of the anxiety is a great feeling. Knowing that you have helped give them an edge when competing for sought after placements gives me and others working with the programme a sense of achievement. I think we may get more out of BITC than the students!” Justin O’Connor, Kefron
Business in the Community – Caritas College
Business in the Community (BITC) is a non-profit organisation that helps businesses impact positively on their communities. Kefron has been involved with BITC since January 2005 through our partnership with Ballyfermot School “Caritas College”. To date, we have taken a number of students on a two-week work experience placement.
Kefron has also signed up for Skills @ Work, the signature programme of the Schools Business Partnership.
This programme provides post-primary school students with a unique insight into the world of work. As part of the Skills @ Work Programme, a number of volunteer Kefron mentors partner an entire class in either 5th or 6th year.
To date, our Kefron mentors have helped students in areas such as interview techniques, CV preparation, applications for college and gaining work experience. The programme can be an invaluable experience for young students who would never have experienced preparing for and performing in such situations.
For Kefron employees, it represents an opportunity to enhance and develop their presentation, communication and interpersonal skills whilst adding diversity to the working day.
